In preparation for our monologue (worth 10 points!) I've decided to save you guys the trouble of googling it and found a few videos for you. These are just some samples of what you can model your recital off of, not how you should act in classroom. You are, however, free to take it in any direction you'd like.

To Be or Not To Be...?

So we've gotten pretty far in Hamlet, and want to know whether or not you guys feel like Hamlet is a good person doing a bad thing, or a bad person doing an even worse thing. Short answers preferred, maybe two or three sentences, and tell me what you think!

• Don't forget about the canned food drive going on; not only will you get to help feed starving people in your community, but you'll ALSO help ME look really good. Remember that the class with the MOST cans donated gets a PARTY. WITH PIZZA. FREE PIZZA. What more could I POSSIBLY need to say?
  
• Your weekly journals are due FRIDAY. Some of you haven't been turning them in like you're supposed to, and it's really hurting your grades. These are basically free points I'm giving away here, guys. Take advantage of it while there's still time!
  
• But on the upside, you guys did such a good job on last week's test that there'll be NO HOMEWORK due for this week. Just this week, but hey, that's more than my teachers ever gave me.
  
• Due dates for your first paper have been pushed back to MONDAY OF NEXT WEEK. I will still accept early submissions, but they won't be counted late until Tuesday. As always, you can e-mail me submissions in lieu of a hard copy.

All About Me

If you're reading this, then that means you or somebody you know has probably been assigned to English 1 with Mr. Gilbert this semester; if this is not the case, then I urge you to get in touch with the teacher that you have been assigned to, and rectify this situation immediately.

If you're still here, then that mean's you're stuck with me; and for that I truly apologize.

My name is Luke Gilbert, and I'm going to be your English 1 teacher this semester. In this class, I hope to give you guys a good idea of what your high school experience will be like, as well as leave you with the ability to write academic papers and as an added bonus, maybe enrich your minds a little. Just maybe.

Believe it or not, I am an accredited educator; I graduated from the University of South Carolina, and am fully licensed to teach you. It won't seem like that at times, but I assure you--I'm legit.

That being said, that means I know exactly how important academic papers are and you will be writing a lot of them. My job is to prepare you for your future and for a lot of you, at least for the next forseeable few years, that means writing papers. So sorry in advance, but it's for your own good. Trust me when I say that it hurts me more than it hurts you.

So welcome to my class everyone; let's try to make it a fun one!

Classroom Calender for October

1) September 29th- Begin reading Hamlet. Make sure you've turned in all MSND work!

2) October 4th- Last call for all missed work. Anything after this will NOT be accepted!

3) October 9th- We'll watching a production of Hamlet up to what you've performed for me so far. Bring popcorn!

4) October 11th- PAPER 1 IS DUE. Late submissions will be accepted at the penalty of -10points off of the final grade!

5) October 14th- canned food drive is over. If we've won, then the following Wednesday (the 16th) we'll have our party in lieu of regular class.

6) October 17th- Lab day. I will not be in the regular classroom. Come to Lab 405, and make sure to bring your thumbdrives!

7) October19th- Pep Ralley (Go Team!)

8) October 23rd- We'll have another day where we watch Hamlet to help put what you guys have read into perspective.

9) October 28th- Last lab day before PAPER II is due! Late submissions will be accepted at the penalty of -10points off of the final grade!

10) October 30th- PAPER II IS DUE!!
